The saffron is a spice produced from dried stigmata (the female genitals of the flower) of the cultural turmeric flower. The saffron is known for thousands of years and its origin is in south west Asia. Since every flower only has 3 stigmata, hundreds of thousands of flowers are needed in order to produce 1 kilogram of saffron, while the process of its production is made by hand. During the cooking, part of the active ingredients of the saffron are being ruined, and that leaves taste but spares from the therapeutic features of the saffron.
